When it comes to investing, the majority of advisors are usually wrong most of the time.  A perfect example of this is when an unusually high amount of so called professional investment advisor’s are bullish, the stock market is most vulnerable.  Vice-versa, when sentiment becomes overwhelmingly bearish, it is usually the best time to look for an uptrend to start.

My suggestion is do your due diligence and stick to your opinion until you are proven wrong.  How are you proven wrong might you ask?  When you lose money you are definitively proven wrong.  

Nobody buys a stock expecting it to go down in price but they do.  And when they go down you have been proven wrong.  It happens.  Now, I’m not talking about down a normal 1% or 2%.  I’m talking down on average between 7% & 8%.  Stocks are going to have normal fluctuations but when it gets down to your absolute limit, you must sell it.

Why sell stocks that go down?  It is imperative to sell stocks that go down to preserve the majority of your money.  The one similar trait the best investors possess to become successful is a reasonable stop loss plan.  It’s simple.  If you cut your losses to a minimum, (7% average) and let your good performing stocks go up say 25% on average.  Even if you are wrong half the time, you will turn a respectable 18% profit.  

Believe me, I am wrong P-L-E-N-T-Y!  It is my stopping of losses that have kept me safe.   

But, wont they come back up?  Usually, yes however sometimes they don’t.  The absolute best picks will usually not go down more than 7% or 8%.  But if even if they do, don’t worry about it because taking small losses is part of investing.  By getting out of stocks that go down and staying in stocks that go up, it will force you to keep your money in the best performing stocks which is precisely where you want it to be.  

If you can’t take a small loss and move on, I would even go so far as to suggest investing in stocks is not for you.  Consider a mutual fund which will buy and sell stocks on your behalf.  

Be careful of sell signals.  Sometimes stocks will sell off in less than, (or even above) average volume and break a trend line and/or pivot point.  That very well could be a sell signal however it also could be a shake out.  A shake out occurs when a stock breaks just below a trend line or pivot point and then rallies in heavier volume back up above that trend line.  I personally consider getting caught in a shake out one of the most, (if not the most) aggravating things about investing however it happens.

So the bottom line is after you make a purchase, stick to it until the stock itself proves you wrong.  And for heaven’s sake, ignore buy and sellchatter about the stock as the majority of (so called) professional investors are usually wrong.
